Lake Burton was the first and largest of six human-made lakes on the Tallulah River. Its waters encompass 2,775 acres and reach depths of 130 feet. Its 62 miles of shoreline are home to a mix of permanent residents and seasonal vacationers.

Recreational Opportunities

Lake Burton is an active lake environment of boating, fishing, water skiing, tubing, kayaking, and more. Swim at Timpson Cove Beach or picnic at the overlook at Jones Bridge Park.

On the lake’s west side, Moccasin Creek State Park features campgrounds, a lakeside pavilion, walking trails, and a fishing pier. While being in this beautiful, mountainous region, many campgrounds in the area are easily accessible with level grounds.

There are plenty of hiking opportunities away from the lake near the Chattahoochee National Forest and the Appalachian Trail. If you need to grab a bite after a long day of activities, there are multiple restaurants throughout the lakes you can dine at.

Known for Outstanding Fishing

Home to the Lake Burton Fish Hatchery, the lake is home to an impressive number of fish species, including spotted, largemouth, and white bass, black crappie, white catfish, walleye, yellow perch, bluegill, redear, sunfish, as well as brown and rainbow trout.

With such a variety of sport fish, the lake is a well-liked fishery among local and visiting anglers. Spotted Bass are one of the most sought-after fish of Lake Burton, holding the record for a spotted bass caught at eight pounds, two ounces.

Stunning July 4th Celebrations, Fall Events

On the Saturday night before Independence Day, an impressive fireworks display is set off against the Blue Ridge Mountain backdrop. Hundreds of people gather around the lake’s Billy Goat Island, in boats and onshore, to see the fantastic show.

In nearby Blue Ridge, events like Bluegrass & BBQ Festival, Moonshine Festival, Soap Box Derby, Georgia Mountains Fall Festival, Santa Express, and New Year’s Eve Midnight Train happen annually. There are also wedding venues.
