High Falls Lake is in Monroe County, Georgia, just an hour away from Atlanta. It sits on 650 acres with a 22-mile shoreline. It is part of High Falls State Park and is known for its beautiful scenery with sites such as the waterfall and Towaliga River.

Out on the Lake

If you’re looking for a good lake for bass fishing, then High Falls Lake is one of the best in Georgia; about a third of the bass here are at least 15 pounds. Besides bass, you can find channel and flathead catfish, black and white crappie, bream, jackfish, and more. Every March, the lake hosts the Forsythia Festival Crappie Tournament.

There are two boat ramps where you can launch boats. Motorized boats are allowed but cannot go above ten horsepower. This restriction allows for a peaceful experience while on paddle boats such as kayaks and canoes. High Falls State Park also offers rentals for kayaks, canoes, and aqua cycles.

If you’re looking to swim at High Falls Lake, you will have to swim at the pool in the state park. Swimming in the lake and rivers is prohibited.

Away From the Lake

High Falls State Park boasts a variety of activities. Here you will find hiking trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, miniature golf, and more. Ball’s Ferry in the park offers hunting, wildlife viewing, and geocaching. High Falls State Park is also known for its breathtaking visuals of flora and fauna in general.

Near High Falls Lake, some favorite places to eat include Buckner’s Family Restaurant, High Falls Wing Depot, and Smoke and BBQ.

If you want a trip to the city, Atlanta is just 50 miles from High Falls Lake. Here you can visit the World of Coca-Cola, the Jimmy Carter Museum, and the Georgia Aquarium. You can also eat at Poor Calvin’s, Atlanta Breakfast Club, and Lazy Dog Restaurant.
