Located just an hour away from Walt Disney World, Lake Thonotosassa is a 947-acre lake located in Hillsborough County, Florida.

The lake reaches depths of 13 feet with average depths of six feet.

Lake Activities Abound

Lake Thonotosassa features many recreational activities for both residents and visitors to enjoy.

Hillsborough River State Park, one of Florida's first state parks, is a popular park to explore. The park provides opportunities to experience Florida's nature and wildlife while canoeing and kayaking or riding through the park on a bike or golf cart rental.

Dinosaur World is a popular museum among families and is only located minutes away. This museum is an enjoyable outdoor museum with over 150 life-sized dinosaur models for children to interact with.

Stonelake Ranch-Boat Ramp is the only public boat ramp on the lake and is available anytime to launch boats for avid anglers.

The lake is abundant with popular sports fish such as largemouth bass, bluegill, black crappie and Florida gar.

Family fun can be found by boating, skiing, and canoeing. Lake Thonotosassa has four campgrounds located near the lake and also four golf course. Reese's Fish Camp is also a popular site to visit for refreshments and food while on the lake.

History of "Thonotosassa"

"Thonotosassa" comes from the Seminole-Creek words thlonto and sasse, which means the place has valuable flint.

The lake then became known as a sacred place for marriages and ceremonial occasions.
