About Lake Ouachita

Largest Lake of Arkansas with Ideal Nature Escape

Lake Ouachita is Arkansas’s largest lake fully engulfed in the majestic Ouachita National Forest. Small towns around the lake have gas stations or country stores for simple needs.

Depending on your location on the lake, you can make it to the city of Hot Springs in 20 minutes to an hour. You can find the National Park Medical Center, Memorial Field Airport, Walmart, hotels, restaurants, and more to fill the city scene. Little Rock is also around two hours away.

44,000-Acre Lake

This vast lake of 44,000 acres contains more than 200 islands. Its 975 miles of shoreline is designated as a nature reserve.

The houses on the lake will have all the privacy any resident would like. It is a reasonably deep lake with an average depth of 50 feet and a maximum of 200 feet.

The Blakely Mountain Dam created lake Ouachita in 1953. Its name comes from the French spelling of the Indian word “Washita,” which means “good hunting grounds.”

Recreation on the Waters and Surrounding Forest

The number of marinas around the lake offer rentals for pontoons, fishing boats, small motorboats, kayaks, canoes, and more. Once you are in the waters, you can enjoy fishing, tubing, water skiing, and more.

Swim the day away at the two sandy beaches or ten designated swimming areas. The exceptional underwater visibility at the lake makes it an excellent scuba diving location and spearfishing.

Lake Ouachita is a great striped bass fishery and largemouth bass, bream, walleye, and crappie. Camp at the Ouachita State Park, backpack the Vista Trail, or hike one of the many day-trails among the 1.8 million acres.

A day in Hot Springs can consist of shopping at the Hot Springs Mall, catching a movie at the Hot Springs 8 Cinema, golfing at the Hot Springs Country Club, or trying your luck at the Oaklawn Racing Casino.

A Spectacle of Outdoor Enjoyment

Lake Ouachita is a beautiful place to take in the beauty of Arkansas in its entirety. The serene atmosphere will put your mind at ease, and you will find entertainment in the many recreational activities.
