Stony Lake is located in Oxford, Michigan, and about an hour north of downtown Detroit.

The nearest major airport is Bishop International Airport, about 30-40 minutes away.

For medical needs, Pontiac General Hospital and McLaren Oakland are great options within 30 minutes drive from the lake.

On the Water

This charming, spring-fed, 67-acre lake is a great option if you’re looking for the advantages of a lake home without a remote location. Stony Lake is an all-sports lake and has no wake restrictions. It also has a public beach for you to enjoy!

Stony Lake is bordered on one side by Oxford Park (it can also be referred to as Stony Lake Park). This park has picnic tables, multiple shaded areas to relax in, offers kayak and paddle board rentals, has a boat launch, and multiple play areas.

In addition to all the boating activities and parks, this lake has a great reputation for its excellent fishing. Anglers can expect to find brown trout, bluegill, black crappie, channel catfish, large and smallmouth bass, rock bass, northern pike, and pumpkinseed sunfish.

Even though the area is only home to small towns, that doesn’t mean there aren’t good places to eat. Johnny Black’s LakeHouse, 5-1 Diner, Red Knapps American Grill, and Oxford Tap Room are just a few local favorites within 15 minutes of this location.

A great outing for a summer day is Bald Mountain State Recreation Area. One of the many parks in this area, Bald Mountain boasts 4,637 acres full of trails for hiking and biking, lakes, picnic areas, and even a shooting range. There are also cabins available for rental on the property.
