The Swift Creek Reservoir is a clear, 1,700-acre body of water in Midlothian, Virginia, under 20 miles from Richmond.

The Richmond International Airport is under 30 miles away, and the Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center is under five miles away. For groceries and essentials, there are several markets and stores within five miles.

On and Around the Lake

Swift Creek Reservoir has plenty of water to explore. Public access, however, is somewhat limited, and there are many private communities along the water's edge.

Despite this, lake activities abound here. Popular choices are boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, fishing, swimming, and relaxing on the shoreline. Anglers on the lake can expect to reel in bass, striped bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, walleye, and white perch.

There is a boat ramp where private boats may be launched, but gasoline motors are prohibited.

Just a mile of the lake is the Birkdale Golf Club, a classic Dan Maples, 18-hole golf. The club offers dining and social opportunities as well.

The top Richmond attraction is Maymont, a 100-acre estate featuring a Japanese garden, petting zoo, carriages, and the Dooley Mansion is available for tour.

Carytown, a popular city district, is home to unique shopping, dining, and entertainment options. The historic Byrd Theater, which was built in 1928, is celebrating over 90 years of service.

The Virginia Museum of Art has free admission and features pieces whose creation dates back to 5,000 years.
