Chickamauga Lake is a beautiful body of water conveniently located on the outskirts of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The city is a hub of restaurants, shops, and attractions. It also includes the Chattanooga Airport and Parkridge Medical Center.

36,240 Acres of Water

Chickamauga Lake was built in 1940 and was filled by the Tennessee and Hiwassee Rivers. It covers 36,240 acres of water and has over 800 miles of shoreline.

It sprawls across Rhea, Meigs, and Hamilton Counties. The lake gets its name from a tribe of Native Americans who broke away from the Cherokee in the 1700s.

Living the Lake Life

Chickamauga Lake has two state parks, two county parks, four municipal parks, and two wildlife centers along with 40 boat launches and a variety of marinas.

Boating, sailing, water skiing, wave running, tubing, and fishing are just a few of the activities it has to offer.

Visit Harbor Lights Marina for day-use boat rentals! Want to hop off the water and find a bite to eat? Dock up at Lakeshore Marina and head over to their Lakeshore Grille for some sake tuna lollipops and almond grouper, topped with white grape sauce.

While its main sport fish catches include bluegill, white crappie, white bass, channel catfish, blue catfish, and sauger, record largemouth bass have also been caught in this lake.

Whether you're off the water because of the weather or want a change of pace for the day, there are plenty of things to do within only a few miles of Chickamauga Lake.

Nearby Chattanooga — also known as the Scenic City and GIG City — has been twice named Outside Magazine’s “Best Town Ever” and is the best city for adventurous families.

Visit the Chattanooga Zoo, or catch a baseball game with the Chattanooga Lookouts. Other favorite activities are touring the caves at Racoon Mountain Caverns or taking a stroll through the 4,100-foot Enchanted Trail at the Rock City.

Other Chattanooga-area attractions include the Creative Discovery Museum, the Southern Belle River Ride, Ruby Falls, and the Tennessee Aquarium.
