Skiatook Lake is located four miles from the name-sharing town of Skiatook and is only a 30-minute drive to the larger city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. There you will find St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa International Airport, and a variety of attractions.

Located in Osage County, the lake is also known as the “Lake of the Osage” and the “Gateway to the Osage.” It was named after Skiatooka, a Native American that frequently visited the local trading post that eventually turned into the town of Skiatook.

"Lake of the Osage"

The 10,190-acre lake was built in 1984 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control, water supply, and recreational purposes. Skiatook Lake now supplies water for the cities of Skiatook, Sand Springs, Tulsa, and Sapulpa.

Across 160 miles of shoreline, it features rocky bluffs, prairie lands, and rolling hills. Its far-stretching waters can be as deep as 80 feet and are 31 feet deep on average.

Fantastic Hunting Location

This 120 million dollar lake has 10 recreation areas that provide many resources for fishing, water skiing, camping, boating, and hunting.

Tall Chief Cove Beach and Twin Points Beach feature a roped-off swimming area. The sands are a great place to suntan, picnic, or oversee the lake.

During hunting season, about 8,000 acres surrounding the lake are open for hunting. White-tailed deer, dove, quail, rabbit, squirrel, duck, and turkey are some of the game in the area.

Fishing Tournaments, Fireworks, and Concerts

Lake Skiatook is home to many community-wide events including fishing tournaments and firework shows.

The most popular event is the "Fantasy in the Sky" held at the local airport. This family-friendly event includes live concerts and fireworks and attracts about 35,000 people each year.
