About Paradox Lake

Convenient to Albany

Paradox Lake is only an hour and a half from Albany, New York state's capital, and minutes from Lake George and all of its tourist attractions.

Located in Essex County, New York, the body of water is nestled in the Adirondack Mountains in eastern upstate New York. This area is considered one of the most scenic sections of the Adirondacks, with numerous rolling hills and lakes.

Paradox Lake locals claim the word "Paradox" in Native American means "Water Running Backward."

Picturesque Views

Paradox Lake covers 896 acres, along 12 miles of shoreline, and has an average depth of 19 feet, with a maximum depth of 55 feet.

The waterbody is part of the New York State Adirondack Park Agency and is maintained by the Paradox Lake Association.

Lake Paradox is home to a variety of freshwater fish including large and smallmouth bass, lake herring, yellow perch, and lake trout. Additionally, the lake is stocked annually with salmon and rainbow trout.

Lake visitors are encouraged to enjoy fishing year-round, permitting motorized boats and canoes during warmer weather, and ice fishing in the winter.

The lake is also home to Pharaoh Mountain, which reaches an elevation of 2,557 feet. Hikers can walk the terrain or venture, exclusively by boat, to the opposite side of the lake to hike Peak Hill or to Peak Hill Pond.
