Many species of warblers and other migratory birds nest in the hardwood stands surrounding the cottage, and even uncommon species such as fisher and pine marten are occasionally seen. There is a path to the lake winding through the trees, where your own boat dock with a bench and a swim raft in the lake await you. Silver Lake is nestled within the 1-million acre Ottawa National Forest. There is no public boat access on Silver Lake (so the lake is never crowded), and the shoreline is over 60\\% National Forest land. There are only three year-round residences at the lake, with the rest being seasonal residents. Fishing is of course a big draw to the lake. Silver Lake offers excellent fishing for smallmouth and largemouth bass, bluegills, and yellow perch. Fishing pressure is very light, unlike many other lakes in the area that have public boat launches. Fish can be caught right from the dock at certain times of the year. Heat is provided by a wood fireplace, but a propane furnace could easily be added if desired (water heater is propane). Furnishings include a boat dock with bench, swim raft, and even an older pontoon boat. So you can move right in and enjoy lake living at its finest. Low maintenance vinyl siding and a newer roof mean more time for recreating, and not working, while you're at the lake. A small storage shed at the lake side holds your water toys and fishing gear.
