About the Area

In  Tullahoma, Tennessee, Woods Reservoir sits within Arnold Air Force  Base. This 3,980 acre lake sits between Nashville and Chattanooga in  the southern part of the state. Woods Reservoir is fed by the Elk River  and was created when the U.S. Corps of Engineers built the Elk Dam in  1952. While a smaller lake with only about 75 miles of shoreline, Woods  Reservoir still provides plenty of opportunities to enjoy oneself.

Surrounding  Woods Reservoir is more than 30,000 acres of Wildlife Management Area.  This land plus Woods Reservoir are managed by the Tennessee Wildlife  Resources Agency. This area creates a great space for anyone who enjoys  the outdoors to take advantage of. The reservoir is considered to be  one of the top three lakes in the entire state of Tennessee for crappie  fishing. Woods Reservoir is definitely an outdoorsman's dream. While  fishing is an extremely popular activity at Woods Reservoir, there are  also many areas designated for hunting. With extremely quiet water,  Woods Reservoir provides a great retreat for anyone in the Tennessee  woods.

Two of the more popular  attractions nearby include Arnold Air Force Base and the Arnold  Engineering Development Center (AEDC). Both sites were named after  General "Hap" Arnold, also nicknamed "The Father of the Air Force." The  AEDC is considered to house the largest and most advanced flight  simulation test facilities in the entire world. With so many unique  technologies under one roof, a tour of the center is a must-see if you  are in the area.

With the  surrounding communities of Manchester, Tullahoma, and Winchester and  being located within driving distance of both Nashville and  Chattanooga, Woods Reservoir provides plenty of opportunities to enjoy  the best that Tennessee has to offer.
