But just to its southwest - and even closer to the Twin Cities - are Spooner, Shell Lake, Trego and Webb Lake, which each have their own individual characteristics as lakeshore getaways in Wisconsin's northwoods. And, they offer a wide variety of waterfront real estate, from perfect beachfront cabins to log retreats along the many rivers, brooks and creeks that criss-cross this scenic part of Wisconsin.
The city of Shell Lake is situated in the southwestern corner of Washburn County, and rests on the shores of beautiful 2,500 acre Shell Lake. Well kept homes and cabins line the shore with their expansive sand beaches - many within walking distance to downtown businesses. With its unique setting overlooking these crystal clear waters, the community's Lakefront Pavilion is the perfect gathering spot for outdoor concerts, weddings, and other numerous events.

Famous as the World's Largest Musky Hatchery - and as one of the best places in the United States to catch these elusive fish - the town has a long history of attracting visitors who enjoy its laid back surroundings and incredible recreational opportunities. All three of the McKenzie Lakes and Spooner Lake are favorite Musky and Bass fisheries for serious anglers from both near and far.
