About the Area

Located  in central Tennessee just a few miles northeast of Nashville, Old  Hickory Lake covers some 22,500 acres of surface area in Davidson and  Sumner Counties. The construction of the Old Hickory Lock and Dam was  completed in 1954 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Cumberland  River. With almost 450 miles of shoreline, this reservoir offers a lot  of options to the whole family and is a great spot in the heart of  Tennessee.

Old Hickory Lake is  considered by many to be one of the premier lakes in the entire state.  Sitting outside of Nashville among the rolling hills of central  Tennessee, Old Hickory Lake offers many activities that are sure to  please anyone. While many are suspect of its murky appearance, studies  have shown that Old Hickory Lake is one of the cleanest lakes in all of  Tennessee. With over 40  boat access locations, this lake is known for its many species of bass  including black bass, spotted bass, true bass, striped bass, and white  bass. Old Hickory Lake is also host to many annual fishing tournaments  such as the various Bassmaster tournaments and the Bass Pro Shops  Crappiemasters National Championship. With many parks  located along the river including the Bledsoe Creek State Park, the  Rockland Recreation Center, and the Sumner County Park, there are more  than enough camping and picnic areas as well.
