Lake Algonquin is a stunning 265-acre lake that is the focal point of Wells, New York, where one may still find the simple pleasures of small-town life. Wells was established in 1805 and stretched about three miles along the shore of Lake Algonquin.

The lake is only 90 minutes from Albany, which makes it an excellent place for a weekend vacation home or a permanent escape from city life.

The lake provides many recreational opportunities, including boating, swimming, paddling, and excellent catfish and bass fishing. You might even want to keep an eye out for bald eagles as they are commonly spotted flying above the waters.

Nearby to the south is the 106,770-acre Silver Lake Wilderness. Hiking, camping, fishing, hunting/trapping, paddling, rock/ice climbing, biking, snowmobiling, skiing, and snowshoeing can all be done almost in your backyard.

Albany is best known for its status as the New York State Capital, which means visiting the state capitol building is a must for some people. The building itself is magnificent with 19th-century architecture in a European style.
