About Pelican Lake - Orr

Hidden Retreat in Northeast Minnesota

Pelican Lake sits in the rich forests of Northeastern Minnesota between the cities of International Falls and Virginia.

The city of Orr offers grocery stores, service stations, a hotel, and small-town shops. International Falls offers typical city conveniences along with a regional airport.

Virginia is home to the Thunderbird Mall, Essential Health Hospital, and Mesabi Range College. Either city is less than an hour away.

A Beautiful Stretch of Water

Pelican Lake covers 11,450 acres of water and over 50 explorable islands. Its 54-mile shoreline is dense with trees and features many hidden coves.

The lake gets its name from the many Great White American Pelicans that populate the lake; other birds you will see around the water include loons, osprey, or eagles.

Those can also see deer, beavers, otters, rabbits, bears, and moose in forested areas around the water.

Activities for Everyone

The lake is popular among anglers for its walleye populations, bluegill, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, and northern pike.

Boaters have their fun on pontoons, speedboats, and jet skis. Waterskiers, tubers, and wakeboarders follow behind.

The City of Orr Park Beach and Playground is on the western shore and a public fishing pier.

Around the Lake

Frank’s Marine is also in Orr, where you can have your boat serviced or rent one for the day.

Lake visitors have a choice of Pelican Lake’s resorts, rental cabins, or the Pine Acres Resort Campground.

The Mickey Elverum Bog Walk features a boardwalk that passes over bogs, swamps, and other lush areas. On your walk, you can spot many unique flowers and plants.
